Areas of Specialization for the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Administration
Students are not required to choose an area of specialization but are encouraged to do so. Students may substitute one or more of the areas of specialization for their Area for, Elective Component, requirement.
Accounting
This area of specialization is for individuals who wish to train in the fundamentals of double-entry bookkeeping. You’ll learn to keep a set of books and to handle all types of business papers. Upon graduation the student is awarded the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Administration with a Specialization in Accounting. Graduates may work in an entry-level accounting/bookkeeping position and/or maintain accounting records for small businesses.

This program is designed for persons who are seeking initial training or for those persons with experience seeking to update and enhance their skills. Computer Repair and Service
The emphasis in Computer Repair and Service prepares individuals for entry-level positions in wholesale and/or retail computer environments as PC repair technicians, technical support service technicians, or other entry-level information technology positions. The program also prepares students, on a basic level, for starting and managing their own business in computer repair and service. An internship provides practical experience. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible and strongly encouraged to ake the National Certification Examination for A+ Certified Computer Repair Technicians. Persons considering this program of study should note that employers of computer repair technicians are more likely to show employment preference to individuals who have taken and successfully passed the A+ certification exam. Upon graduation, the student is awarded the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Administration with an Emphasis in Computer Repair and Service.

Legal Assisting/Paralegal Studies
The emphasis in Legal Assisting and Paralegal studies offers various courses that provide practical experience and knowledge in a wide range of legal practice. Graduates of this program should be prepared to offer assistance to attorneys in the drafting of formal pleadings, interviewing clients, gathering and analyzing information, administering estate settlements as well as by assisting attorneys in court. Graduates may work in a variety of settings including law firms, corporations, banks, insurance companies, government agencies, public defenders offices and district attorneys offices. The emphasis in Legal Office Administration prepares individuals for administrative assistant positions in both the public and private sectors. Graduates may work in a variety of employment possibilities to include such places as commercial organizations, government agencies, court systems, corporate legal departments, and other business settings. Gradates may assist in the preparation of legal documents including pleadings, motions, contracts, research memoranda, discovery, settlement agreements, and trial briefs. Job responsibilities may include managing client files, organizing records, documenting and scheduling litigation dates, and coordinating court appearances. Office System Technology
The emphasis in Office Systems Technology provides training in the specialized skills and knowledge of office software applications needed by the office employee in a modern business environment. Students study the Microsoft Office XP Suite and learn the applications of such software within normal business practice, organization and business problem solving. The student is strongly encouraged to take the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification exam specific to each CIS course content area. Graduates may work in entry-level positions for businesses needing individuals trained in computer applications and other office skills needed for success in the high-tech office environment. With time and satisfactory work experience, theindividual may assume supervisory responsibilities. Upon graduation, the student is awarded the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Administration with an Emphasis in Office Systems Technology.
